Whether you've gone grey naturally, or you're following the trend, you may have to switch up your hair care routine to keep it maintained. As we get older, the pigment cells in our hair gradually die, leaving the hair with a more transparent colour which shows up as grey. If you're going grey as a bold statement, it will involve using bleach that strips the hair of it's natural pigment, before adding back silver tones. Either way, grey hair is more susceptible to dehydration and damage, so it's essential that you look after it.

Silver Shampoo And Conditioner

Silver shampoo is designed specifically for grey hair. It helps to banish any yellow or dull tones that naturally occurs on some grey hair, leaving your hair looking and feeling healthier. Pairing this with a conditioner is always really beneficial. Whether you're using an intense mask, or a daily conditioner, we'd recommend you add this to your routine to keep your grey hair as healthy and bright as possible. If you do find your hair starts picking up the colour of the shampoo, lay off it for a couple of days and let your hair reset.

Avoid Alcohol In Hair Products

Grey hair tends to be drier and frizzier than normal, due to the lack of pigment in the hair follicle. This makes it even more important to ensure you don't strip your hair of any additional moisture. As you may be aware, alcohol in any grooming product isn't that good for hydration. Try avoiding any hair products with a high alcohol content to make sure your hair retains as much of its natural moisture as possible.

Protect Grey Hair From The Environment

Environmental pollutants can make any hair colour dull, not just grey hair. The first step in protecting against pollutants and UVA is to wash your hair at least every other day, which helps to prevent build up. If you can get a hydrating shampoo and conditioner with added antioxidants, bonus! However if this isn't possible, you could always opt for a leave in oil or styling cream that has added antioxidants to keep your hair safe and sound.
