Growing the perfect facial hair isn't an easy task - you have a lot of things to contend with including itching, scruffiness general patchiness. It's all worth it in the end, when you've finally succeeded in growing that great beard you so heavily desire. We're pros here at Mankind, at least we'd like to think so. We've got some of our favourite tips on how to prepare for growing the perfect facial hair, and hopefully they'll help make this years 5 o'clock shadow the best yet.
It's What's On The Inside That Counts...
First things first: your diet! The secret to growing great facial hair, starts from what you put in your body. Your hair will actually grow quicker if you look after yourself. This involves getting plenty of sleep, eating a protein-packed diet to provide your facial hair with nutrients and eliminating stress. We know the last step is easier said than done, but it's worth a shot, right? In addition to this, make sure you're drinking enough water. You need roughly around 8 glasses a day, and it might also be worth taking these with some supplements that promote healthy hair growth.
Take It Back To The Beginning
What we mean by this is starting with a fresh face. Shave it all off and give yourself a blank canvas to start with. What this actually does is helps you combat any initial signs or irritation and any issues with the skin. It's important to make sure you shave properly, as you don't want to end up with ingrown hairs at a later date. Make sure that you use a cleanser to remove any excess oil and dirt from your skin, before applying your shaving cream and beginning your shave.
How To: Barbershop Shave At Home
Shaving can be a bit of a chore, don't you agree? We feel as though shaving at home is never as good as a shave we'd get from a barber. Continue reading to find out how to get a barbershop shave from the comfort of your own home.
Persevere Through The Itch
Quite possibly the most difficult tip to follow - however it's essential! We know that new beard growth gets ridiculously itchy and it becomes really tempting to sack it off and start again. A lot of the time, the itch is down to your facial hair being coarse and because of a build up of dead skin and excess oil. Combat this issue by using a beard oil and a beard moisturiser, the itch will gradually disappear and you'll be left with an incredible beard.
Moisturise Often
This ties into the previous tip, and is equally as important. Whilst you may be tempted to solely focus on moisturising your beard, moisturising the skin underneath your beard will help you to avoid any additional irritation - especially in the early stages of beard growth!
Find A Shape That Suits You
Getting this right at the early stages of beard growth is crucial. It can help your beard grow in right, and not end up looking unkempt. Once you've started growing facial hair, it's always advisable to go to a barber and ask for them to shape it and pass on any advice. After all, they're the professionals! This is also a good tip because it can help you deal with any patchy beard issues, and keeps your facial hair looking neat.
