After a long, cold winter, spring is finally upon us. Each year, our wardrobes change according to the seasons, but your skin gets forgotten about every time.  As the largest organ, it’s important to take care of it, meaning your spring skincare needs to differ from the other months. Otherwise, your pores can become blocked, leaving you with dull, oily skin. The basics still apply, but it's important to review your product choices to keep your skin in tip top condition.

Switch Your Moisturiser

You wouldn’t wear your winter coat in warmer weather, so why keep your skin trapped under a thick, heavy moisturiser?  During the winter, skin becomes dry quickly due to the harsh elements, so a rich moisturiser is needed to provide your skin with extra protection. However, when it warms up, the same moisturiser will make your skin sweat, produce more oil and likely break out. Switching to a Hyaluronic Acid or water-based formula is a good alternative to keep your skin hydrated without overdoing it. Using one containing an SPF is also a good shout to protect you from the stronger UV rays .

Cleanse Away The Winter

Winter wreaks havoc on the skin, meaning that a gentle, yet effective deep cleanse is needed. Throughout the colder season, skin can create more oil, so you should start your spring skincare regime by removing all of the excess sebum. Using the double cleanse ritual from Erno Laszlo will balance the skin’s pH and leave it looking and feeling incredibly clean. Discover more about the method here:

The Erno Laszlo Cleansing Ritual

Is there a right or a wrong way to cleanse your skin? According to Erno Laszlo, one size doesn't fit all when it comes to cleansing. With it being the first part of any grooming routine, it's good to recognise the importance of this step.

Scrub Off Excess Skin

Now the colder months are over, your skin is in desperate need of exfoliation. Not only does it remove the dead skin cells to reveal a fresh layer of skin, blocked pores will be cleared so your skin can thrive. Opt for either a gentle scrub or a chemical exfoliant to avoid aggravating the new cells. You will be left with a healthy, smooth, glowing complexion.

Stay Hydrated

When the weather warms up, you sweat more and lose higher levels of moisture. This makes it even more important to stay hydrated, replenishing lost fluids. Making sure to drink 4-8 cups (1-2 litres) of water each day will keep your skin healthy from the inside out. Your skin will be able to remove toxins more easily and appear healthier and younger with a subtle glow.

Spring Clean Your Skincare Products

Now you’re switching around your skincare regime, it’s the perfect time to give your existing products a spring clean too. Old products are bacteria breeding grounds and using them will leave you with clogged pores and dull skin. Take a look at the shelf life and throw out anything which has been open for too long. You can also prevent bacteria from building up as quickly by washing your hands before use and closing them as soon as you’re finished with them. Know Your Grooming Labels

No, we're not talking about labels like Molton Brown and Clinique For Men, but rather – the little labels you see on the back of every grooming and beauty product out there. Who can confidently say that they know what each of them mean?
