Once you’ve began to grow facial hair, you can’t just leave it to grow wild. It’s important to invest time to care for it, otherwise it can end up appearing neglected. To prevent this from happening, read our ultimate guide of tips for shaping facial hair. Follow our tricks below to help create a smart, precise look that you can be proud of.

Our Guide to Shaping Facial Hair

Consider Shapes

When deciding on your style of facial hair, it’s important to consider your hairstyle and the shape of your face. For example, if you have a narrow face and short hair, a big beard may not be the best option. Try to keep it in proportion with your existing features to maintain style and avoid looking unkempt.

Use The Right Razor

Once you’ve decided on the perfect facial hair shape, you need to use effective tools to help achieve it. A straight razor is one of the best options as it allows for a close shave and the most precision. We recommend using the Men Rock Straight Razor alongside the shave cream to ensure a smooth shave and prevent razor burn.

Open Pores Effectively

Before shaving to shape your facial hair, you need to ensure that the hairs are softened and your pores are opened. The best way to do this is to place a hot towel onto your face for a few minutes first to prevent ingrown hairs, redness, nicks and cuts. After shaving, do the same with a clean, cold towel or a splash of cold water to close the pores again.

Keep It Trimmed

After you’ve created the shape that you want, remember to trim up the remainder of the hair to keep it looking neat and uniform in length. Start by using a beard trimmer such as the below from Philips which features an integrated vacuum to clean up trimmed hairs. Finish off by snipping away any stray hair over your top lip or elsewhere.
