What a fantastic shaving machine!
5After reading the reviews I just HAD to get my hands on this razor.It arrived today and I was stunned by its awesome build quality and finish. My old Fusion feels like a Fisher Price toy in comparison.The blade loading mechanism is very secure and inspires a feeling of confidence. (You must listen to that awesome 'clunk' when you snap the head cover back on - typical German engineering). The adjusting mechanism feels very solid and enables you to tailor the razor for your perfect shave.After lathering my face and commencing my shave, I thought 'Wow! This thing shaves super close!' I have sensitive skin so I am unable to shave against the grain, but this gets SO close I don't need to do that anymore. One thing you need to bear in mind when using this razor is NOT TO APPLY ANY PRESSURE - LET THE WEIGHT OF THE RAZOR DO THE WORK.This razor is worth its weight in gold and I highly recommend it. Its initial outlay is expensive but it will save you money in the long run and it makes shaving a pleasure, not a chore

5This razor is amazing. If you suffer from ingrown hairs, shaving rash, get one of these with a brush and some Trumpers cream.

Fantastic Razor...And here's why
5The Merkur is the best razor I have used, but then again I have only used this and a Mach 3 in my life. The Merkur blows any modern Gillette razor out of the water and given me the best shaves of my life. This razor took me about 4 weeks to get used to: it's style, it's weight and the best techniques on how to use it all took time to master. It is best to start at number 1 setting (mild) and work your way up to setting 6 (sharp) but I now have it on 4 or 5 all the time and don't use the recommended Merkur blades. I find the Gillette platinum blades work better and they can be bought online (see forums) or at most John Lewis stores. I won't deny there's been bad and frequent cuts on my face in the first few weeks. However, it was worth it for what I have now. I rarely cut my face at all with the Merkur. I have about 3 shaves a week and probably get about one minor nick or cut a month if I'm unlucky. Remember, if you're going to use the razor then use it correctly. Use a good shave oil with a popular shave cream/gel after you, of course, take a hot shower or use a shave towel. With the Merkur it is best to shave in short strokes, using both sides of the double-sided razor and then rinse well with medium to hot water. Try it for 4 weeks and get you'll get used to it. If I can use it properly then anyone can. This razor is heavy weight compared to a modern day Gillette. Try not to rub it against your face too hard and instead let the weight of the razor do the cutting. Good luck...Buy one of these today!

The REAL DEAL

I have been a lifelong Gillette man, but no more. This razor shaves closer and neater than any Mach3 razor. Its a bit on the heavy side but probaby because I am used to the plastic mach3's.
Tips to remember, do not press with this razor let its own weight do the work. The funny thing is I actually got through my shave FASTER than I do with my normal Mach3, it really shifts the stubble, I used Truffit and Hill shave creame and finished with American crew after shave. Another tip, do not be distracted by wife or girlfriend or whoever when you first use this tool, as you need to concentrate or you will cut yourself. If you use a low setting to begin with, keep a strong grip and don't apply pressure you'll be okay. Its pricey to begin with £35, but if you think that packs of 10 are £4 only and you get a pack of 10 free, which I suppose will last me 10-12 weeks, compare that to Mach 3, pack of 4 = £5, that last me 4-6 weeks, then I think over time it will pay itself off.

Super Smooth!
5Love it to bits. Beautifully made and loving the solidness of it compared to plastic nasty razors. I use this some Neal's Yard pre-shave oil and Geo F Trumpers soap with Men-U brush and I actually look forward to my shave now. It used to be such a chore. Trying hard not to use up my Men-U samples and keep for hols but so good might just buy some more!

Simply the best if used with the right cream
5I have used all the pricey razors, mach3 turbo, quatro etc but nothing matches a DE razor. Beware though that you MUST use a glycerin based cream. What works with normal razors (e.g. Clinique) does not work with DE razors. Trumper's rose did not work for me either because it dries the skin. Try the almond cream of Taylor of old Bond street. This is the ideal combination for me having used many cream\gels etc. It really protects the skin while shaving and does not dry it. Any ideas on how to clean the razor?

First Class Product
5This will give you the best shave ever. It will take a bit of getting used to if you've never used a 'proper' razor before, but you won't want to go back. Its adjustable head with single blade will give you a 'clog free' shave and save you money too as the blades are much cheaper.

Superb
5My girlfriend bought me this after a few hints. I have to agree with all the positive comments. I find the Murkur very well weighted and gave me a great shave the first time I used it. It looks a bit daunting at first but if you take your time, it gives unparalleled results. I would however advise anyone with spotty or problem skin to take caution as the blades are incredibly sharp and will not move over bumps or spots. Anyone with raised mole on their face would need to be very careful indeed. All in all, a superb bit of kit.

Well worth the investment
5Previous dissatisfied Mach 3 user. I bought one at Christmas and since then have had *no* problems with razor burn or in-growing hairs. There is a learning curve but nothing too onerous. Recommended.

Money well spent
5This is my second DE razor and is buy far the best due to the adjustable head. I just couldn't shave with the gillette and gel anymore to many ingrowns and rashes. Combine with Trumper's shave cream it makes a beautiful shave. It does require some practice to get used to it but then it is great.Buy one now.
